Larry A. Buehler

Conversations with Land

A painting is a conversation. For Larry Buehler, the land has the first word. He responds with broad brushstrokes of color—capturing the muscularity of mountains, the ephemera of changing light and shifting atmosphere. Buehler strives to respond with honesty and clarity to the depth and nuance that the land offers. Then he speaks back.

Color, brushstrokes and drips layer as the conversation evolves. Textures emerge. Forms sharpen or fade. Light and air infuse the landscape with breath. There are pauses for silence.

In the end, the conversation lies revealed. The ebb and flow of thought, emotion and skill offers the viewer a place to begin his or her own dialogue with the land.
